ill give it to noah, this is a great read…  i never went to a sxsw… never really felt the need… i was east coast from 94-97 and even before that macworlds, my own meetups and other trips to E3 and such seemed to suffice. from 97-2009 their were enough siggraphs, comicons, gdcs, and digital hollywoods and then virtual worlds craps to go too…

but the read provided me with a narrative i know see thats beyond the author and frankly i think as i type it here now. firstly conceived.

the parallel growth of the comic-con and the sxsw shows and how both morphed from two smaller artist driven gatherings into the two opposing factions in the main dollar war over “culture” and control of virtuality culture today”…

comicon killed the comic artist and writers shoe. and replaced it by the large media coporate studio executives weekend party for all thing creative IP and copyrightable…

while SXSW killed the music/multimedia/video artists( who thought they would kill the comic print guys btw) and replaced them with the VC backed, disruptive patent based geeks of tech and pipe ownership that would uses all copyrights to fuel their takeover of culture…

think of it as the Gleeks vs the Geeks.. and that how in the meme of the networked machine, not humanity, the geek wins. untill of course , skynet decides it needs neither, maybe the geeks should have given the gleeks more respect.

you read it here first…  in this minor post… but i think i may begin to prove my thesis in a longer form..

as always, im always right.. 🙂  youll see..;)
